still, flash flooding for the most parts. queen annes and talbot and anne arundel county. we'll show you the radar. bottom line, there's still a flash flood watch. even as the storms clear out of the northwestern suburbs as they have. you have run off going on from a few inches of rain that come down in a matter of an hour or two. you have the potential for some flash flooding. and as woesome in a little -- and as we zoom in, here's the area in question. you have the lightning coming in and damaging winds on the front end of the damaging storms. but, again, the heavy rain with that, it's sparking flash flood concerns. we'll continue to monitor the sky and they're continuing to clear in baltimore. we'll have more on where the

storms head, coming up. red cross workers are helping victims of last night's storms. strong winds ripped off roofs from apartments. . the red cross is helping families affected. >> lightning started this three alarm fire in jarredsville. a neighbor vehicle up to a loud bang. he saw the roof on fire at this home also. before the firefighters arrived, four young girls ran around the house to see if anyone was inside. they were all away at the time. >> they were out of the country on vacation. we couldn't get them on the phone. they're in miami trying to get home now. >> it took the firefighters an

moments that follow. this hit-and-run is no different. from the way they died to the specifics on the car that hit them, if you listen to the dispatch, you'll see, sorting out the details was complicated. >> we have two down. >> reporter: two down on martin luther king boulevard. these teen girls hit by a car as they crossed the street. the initial call to 911 on june 13th said it was a hit-and-run. four minutes in, confusion on dispatch as to whether or not they were hurt another way. >> i got a ticket that says they were shot. can anyone say differently? >> reporter: the police said they were working a hit-and- run, not a shotting. as the cops respond, they learned they were killed on impact, dying at the scene where a memorial is now.

>> we're told that they're deceased by medics. >> reporter: as the investigation becomes a double fatal, the police turn to the car that hits the girls. the conflicting details came in. the officers had to look out for a burgundy honda and jeep. 19 minutes after the first call, dispatch says that a potential match was pulled over. >> it has heavy front end damage and it comes back to a 2001 lincoln. the resident is from maryland. the car is traced back to a 27-year-old woman. the police won't confirm if she was in the car. so far, no arrests have been made. one other interesting thing is with the mlk boulevard closed, a drunk driver blew through the barricade, narrowly missing the

police officers investigating. you can hear the tapes yourself on abc2news.com in the next few minutes. well, right now, investigators are working to find out what caused a car to run off of a parkway, killing one and injuring others. the parkway reopened early this morning. a court date is set for the maryland woman accused of murdering her coworkers in bethesda. it's for friday, october 24th. the trial will take about eight days. the police make a prostitution bust at a hotel. a number of claims had the hotel prompting the investigation. they arrested this woman from

oklahoma. a croftton man is accused of taping women after they changed their clothes. according to authorities, he had a camera and videos with nude women who didn't appear to know they were being watched he had 220 video clips of 260 different women. towson's charles village club is on its way back. the owners broke ground on the project. the fire destroyed the hang out in january. the rebuilding will expand the restaurant. they'll add more employees and more space and a rooftop deck. the space shuttle program has been the backbone of u.s. space flights. today, folks all around the world paused to watch the flight today.

that includes several at the maryland science center. >> reporter: the shuttle atlantis sits on a launch pad in florida. hundreds of miles away, the maryland science center holds a viewing party. >> this is the very last launch of shuttle program. it's been in existence for 30 years. that was the first shuttle. they've had their ups and downs and this is historic. >> reporter: a standing room only crowd filled the rooms. each step of the process becomes a teachable moment. >> there are the astronauts, right there. >> reporter: the entitle is building -- the excitement is building and at 31 seconds, the clock stops. >> the thing that disappointed me was that the clock froze. that was disappointing.

[ cheers and applause ] >> it was like, cool. >> reporter: he shared this moment with his granddaughter. >> maybe they'll look back and know they were here for the event. >> reporter: when the shuttle returns from the mission, the shuttle program will be retired officially. that doesn't mean that the space program will be shutdown. >> the astronauts going to the space station will go on russian rockets or on private rockets. yeah, they'll have people in the space station and people up, but not on the shuttles. >> reporter: while the next generation of space travel is yet to be seen -- >> she said, that's cool, i want to be an astronaut. >> now, if you missed today's

the police know why these water deaths can be avoided. chuck major and his wife are on their boat often and they're concerned about safety. >> we took the course and it helped us. just to know the rules of the road. >> reporter: maryland had 13

beeting relate -- boating related deaths this year. in all of 2010, maryland had 13 boat related deaths. we're just entering the two most deadly months of the year. the police say there's a reason why the deaths have been high. it seems we bypassed spring and went into the summer heat. >> if the weather is hot, dry and people turn to the waterways, we're going to expect to see an increased number of accidents. >> reporter: being on the water is relaxing. that's why we do it. when it's outside, added factors could add fatigue to the body. >> there are natural stress so fares that d, stresses that -- stresses that affect the body. . if you add alcohol into the mix, it magnifies the effect

better after getting massages. the story in usa today says that the ones who got massages were better able to work and more active for up to a year. smoking is blamed for increasing your risk of cancer. if you can dodge that, it's good for your joins. a study of 11,000 older men showed that it helped joints and knees. nicotine may have something to do with it. the nicotine may stimulate cell activity. also, on the eastern shore, these counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning as

well as a flash flood warning. that's really been the main concern. we've had damaging wind gusts and really, most of us are getting too much rain, too quickly. you're clearing out in harford county and elkton and cecil county. you'll have run off. you can see the streams and the low lying areas continuing. you can see the activity crossing the chesapeake. there's mighty wild weather down here. probably the most intense storm is this one. you can see the storm cell with widespread lightning and northern caroline county, head indoors, you'll have a good hour of lightning and potentially flooding rains. we'll show you the flash flood watch. it continues into baltimore. this is for the rest of the evening. the counties will be taken out of the watch from west to east.

you can see the rain totals. that's impressive. it took an hour or two to put down two inches of rain. it's still coming down here in middletown. a lot more to go in that direction. take a look at the conditions in the inner harbor. still cloudy. the rain is letting up. 73 at bwi. that's after topping out in the upper 80s to 90s. the rain cooled us off and the rains cleared directions. look at the rain cooling here. the last four or five days, we've seen 90 plus. we're in the mid-70s out there, all accept for parts of the delmarva. humidity is extremely high. it will be muggy. dry air is working its way in.

it's impacting the state and south eastern maryland. look at this clearing from the north and west. it's a good thing. it's a good forecast. and the front will continue to push south overnight and eliminating the flooding potential and the humid conditions. we have several more hours also. i would say that the last rain showers will begin to diminish by 9:00 and 10:00. they may linger on the beaches and the lower eastern shore. that will clear out by 7:00 and 8:00 in the morning. if you're going to the beach, you should be good. i think that sunday looks dry and pleasant as well. tonight, forecast, 68 and flash flood continuing next several hours. you'll begin to see that letting up from west to east as the storms continue to push east and south east. tomorrow, 89 and stray morning showers towards the beaches. then, clearing throughout the day for all of maryland. tomorrow night, 64 and partly

you were saying that some of the storms were more organized? >> well, some of the counties are warned. >> especially towards denton in northern talbot county. look at the storm. it's moving to the east. that's large cluster of lightning from centreville and denton. that's all of the towns that surround denton. be ready for that and realize that's going to be a while. >> we'll keep our eye on it.
